Missy - I never read the partial from Edward's POV though I understood Ms. Meyer was going to publish the book before it got released prematurely. And I have to agree with you about the movies. They are certainly getting more and more entertaining. (Go team Jacob!)

I'm going tonight, in fact, and bought my tickets two weeks ago. I really did like the stories. Did you ever read the partial Meyer wrote from Edward's point of view? It's available on her site here.

I think the movies are getting better and it's fun as hell to attend when the crowd is huge. No one will notice my sighing when the tweens surrounding me are screaming their little heads off. (It's the same with Harry Potter movies.) A small group of us go, and we're all in our early thirties. I'm the only Team Jacob, though ;)

Missy - You're very welcome. They key is to do only what you enjoy. Not every author blogs. It's not their cup of tea which is fine. It means they should get out there other ways. The key is to not do so much you're overwhelmed. Enjoy the ride. It only gets better!

Lisabet - Your author name is something that should be easy to remember and for readers to google. I forgot to mention that. Thanks for bringing that up. My pen name was luck of the draw after a lunch with my mother (including a couple of glasses of wine). I had no idea about book placement or checking to see if someone else was using the name. It was already out there when I learned all that. Fortunately, it's really worked for me.

Newsletters and mailing lists are also a great way to keep in touch with your readers. And it is about ... one reader at a time. Thanks for stopping over Lisabet.

As someone who's about to be published for the first time, I'm always interested in posts like this. So, thank you, Nina, for taking the time to write out your thoughts. I've been talking to myself on my own blog since January, when I first submitted the story. I also joined a couple of RWA chapters with loops and found a blog where I can guest after my book releases. I _think_ I'm doing things right, but I still worry that I'm missing something. Hopefully, it's just first-timer nerves. :) Thanks again for the post, Nina.

Hi, Nina,

Well, it does help to have a memorable name (LOL). I was very lucky when I chose my pseudonym. There are no other Lisabet Sarais out there anywhere from what I can tell! (By the way, I find your name memorable also. I was noticing your list posts long before I "met" you online.)

I don't have any magic bullets. However, I do run a monthly contest in which the readers must send me email to enter. I acknowledge all emails, to make the readers know how much I appreciate their time, and then I ask if I can add them to my mailing list. I only use this mailing list once or twice a month, btw, to announce my newsletter and any new releases. I have a Yahoo group for blog announcements and so on.

I don't know if this translates into sales, but I find that the titles one uses on list posts make a huge difference in the number of visitors I have to a blog post. "Blogging today at..." just doesn't attract anyone's attention! Neither does "Hot excerpt from..."! I deliberately try for blog titles and post titles that will make people curious.

Carol Lynne, who has a huge following of devoted readers, once wrote that you build up an audience one reader at time. I think this is very true. Once you've got someone hooked on your stuff, she will buy more as well as talking to her friends about you.

Best,
Lisabet
